From right to left along the rim, a Latin inscription 'ET BRASILIÆ DOMINI ANNO' — 'Brazil from the year of our Lord'. The minting date 1778 is above. In the central part, an equilateral cross within a decorative frame.
Obverse
Decorative raised denticles along the edge of the coin. Along the rim, from the right, bottom, and left, a Latin inscription: 'MARIA. I. E. PETRUS. III. D. G. PORT. REGES. E. BRAS. D.', translating to 'Maria I and Petrus III, by the Grace of God, Regents of Portugal and Brazil'. In the central part, the Coat of Arms of Portugal: a heraldic shield crowned with an imperial crown. In the central part of the shield, arranged in the shape of a cross, are five smaller shields, each with five bezants. The border of the large shield is a wide bordure with seven castles. At the level of the shield's center, vertically arranged: on the left, the digits '2000' between two dots; on the right — three four-petaled rosettes between two dots at the top and bottom.
