In the central part, an eagle facing left is depicted on a bridge, which bears the split date '1930'. Along the edge of the coin, separated from the central image by raised dot elements, is the inscription with a quote by German historian Ernst Moritz Arndt: 'DER RHEIN DEUTSCHLANDS STROM • NICHT DEUTSCHLANDS GRENZE' (The Rhine, Germany's river, not Germany's border). The rim is decorated with decorative denticles.
  • Obverse
In the central part is the coat of arms of the German Empire: a heraldic shield with an eagle facing left, wings spread. Stylized clouds are to the left, above, and right of the shield. In the upper cloud is the mint mark 'E' for the Muldenhütten mint. The legend 'DEUTSCHES REICH' (German Empire) is inscribed in a semicircle along the top edge, and 'DREI REICHSMARK' (Three Reichsmarks) is at the bottom. Oak leaves are placed between the inscriptions. The central image is separated from the legend by raised dot elements. Decorative raised denticles run along the rim.
