In the central part, an elephant is depicted facing left. On the sides are curved oak branches, tied at the bottom with a ribbon forming a bow. Along the edge of the coin in an arc: at the top the name of the colony 'CEYLON', at the bottom the year of minting '1821'. Above the image, horizontally in two lines - 'ONE RIX DOLLAR'. All inscriptions are in English.
Obverse
In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George IV of Great Britain in a laurel wreath. Along the rim, the name and titles of the monarch in Latin: 'GEORGIUS IV D:G: BRITANNIAR: REX F:D:' (George IV by the Grace of God King of the Britains Defender of the Faith). Below the truncation are the initials of the Italian medallist Benedetto Pistrucci - 'B.P.'.
