    In the central part, a left-facing profile portrait of Liberty, wearing a headband inscribed in Spanish 'LIBERTAD' (Liberty). Below the head is the monogram 'HP' of the engraver Thomas Humphrey Paget. Along the left arc of the coin is the Spanish inscription 'MEDIO PESO' (half peso). Along the right arc is the weight of 12.5 grams: '12 ½ GRAMOS'. Along the bottom arc is the year of issue, 1937. The inscriptions are separated by four five-pointed stars. The coin's edge features decorative denticles.

On the motto ribbon of the coat of arms is the Spanish inscription 'DIOS PATRIA LIBERTAD', translating to 'God, Fatherland, Liberty'. On the ribbon in the lower part of the coat of arms is the country's name in Spanish: 'REPUBLICA DOMINICANA'. The coin's edge features decorative denticles.
