Below the head is the monogram 'HP' of the engraver Thomas Humphrey Paget. Along the left arc of the coin is the Spanish inscription 'MEDIO PESO' (half peso). Along the right arc is the weight of 12.5 grams: '12 ½ GRAMOS'. Along the bottom arc is the year of issue, 1937. The inscriptions are separated by four five-pointed stars. The coin's edge features decorative denticles.
