    In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the text '2 FRANCS'. In the central part is a portion of the state coat of arms of the Congo – an escutcheon with a crown above it. To the left and right are crossed branches. Along the lower edge arc is the year of mintage – '1894'. Around the circumference along the rim are decorative elements in the form of dentils.

    In the central part of the coin is struck the left-facing profile of King Leopold II. Along the edge of the coin from left to right runs the text 'LEOP. II R. D. BELG. SOUV. DE L'ETAT INDEP. DU CONGO', which translates from French as 'Leopold II, R.D., Belgian Sovereign of the Independent State of the Congo'. Below the neck truncation is the artist's name – 'L. WIENER'. Around the circumference are decorative raised dentils.
