    The central part features the denomination in two lines: ДЕНГА. Below it, the year of mintage is indicated in Old Church Slavonic: 1716. The surrounding text reads: ВСЕѦ РОСIИ ПОВЕЛIТЕЛЬ. The edge resembles a twisted rope—the traditional serrations are positioned at an angle to the ground.

    The center of the obverse is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire—a double-headed eagle. Both heads of the eagle bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is placed between them.
