    At the top, the inscription 'THREE PENCE'. In the central part is the Commonwealth Coat of Arms of Australia: a kangaroo and an emu supporting a shield, above which is the Commonwealth Star, below it a torse, and beneath the shield the motto 'ADVANCE AUSTRALIA'. Below the coat of arms, flanked by heraldic roses, is the year of minting '1911'. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part of the coin is a left-facing profile of King George V of Great Britain. An arc of Latin text runs along the edge: 'GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:', which translates to 'GEORGE V BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL BRITAIN, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, EMPEROR OF INDIA'. Below the portrait is a dot. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
