Along the coin's edge is a decorative raised pattern in the form of denticles, along which are the country name 'REPUBLICA PERUANA', the mint 'LIMA', the fineness '9 DECIMO'S FINO Y B' (9/10 fine gold), the engraver's initials, and the year of minting in Spanish 'REPUBLICA PERUANA LIMA 9 DECIMO'S FINO Y B 1863'.
