The central part features silhouettes of ships of the French Navy. Above them, within a stylized frame, is the inscription '10 EURO'. Along the upper edge's arc is the series name 'Les Grands Navires Francais', which translates from French as 'Great Ships of France'. The lower part depicts a fragment of a ship's chain and the mintage year '2016', flanked on the left by a cornucopia (the mintmark of the Paris Mint) and on the right by a pentagon – the mark of the Chief Engraver of the Paris Mint, Yves Sampo.

Depicts the French surface combatant ship 'Charles de Gaulle'. Below it, within stylized waves, is the aircraft carrier's name in French 'LE CHARLES DE GAULLE'. To the left of the inscription are the letters 'RF' – French Republic (French: République Française), to the right is an anchor.
