The surface is divided into three parts by two concentric circles. The central part features an image of an ancient, fortified door. Around it (in the inner circle) is an inscription in Spanish: «CASA DE LA MONEDA.», which translates to 'Mint' or 'Money House'. In the outer circle, along the rim, is the inscription: «UN PESO» - one peso. Further, separated from it by two five-pointed stars, is the weight - «26.7 GRAMOS». Along the lower edge arc, separated from the inscriptions by five-pointed stars (three on each side), is the year of issue – 1972. The rim is decorated with a raised border.
Obverse
The central part features the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic. On the motto scroll of the coat of arms is an inscription in Spanish: «DIOS PATRIA LIBERTAD», which translates to 'God, Homeland, Liberty'; on another scroll is the name of the country, the Dominican Republic, in Spanish: «REPUBLICA DOMINICANA». Along the upper edge arc of the coin is text in Spanish: «25 ANIVERSARIO BANCO CENTRAL DE LA REPUBLIKA DOMINIKANO», which translates to '25th Anniversary of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic'. In the lower part, along the edge arc of the coin, are the years: «1947-1972», separated from the inscription by two five-pointed stars. The coin's edge has a raised border.
