    In the central part, within an openwork circular frame, is a palm tree dividing the mint year into two parts, with '19' on the left and '28' on the right (1928). Along the upper edge arc is 'BRITISH WEST AFRICA' and at the bottom 'ONE SHILLING'. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George V of Great Britain wearing a crown. Along the edge arc runs the Latin inscription '∙GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:', which translates to 'GEORGE V BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL BRITAIN, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, EMPEROR OF INDIA'. Below the portrait is a dot. The coin's edge features decorative raised denticles.
