Reverse
The central part features the lesser coat of arms of the Austrian Empire. It depicts a double-headed eagle with spread wings, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen. In its right talon are a sword and scepter, in its left an orb. On its chest is the family heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Along the edge of the coin are Latin inscriptions in an arc: to the right and left 'HVNG∙BOH∙LOMB∙ET VEN∙GAL∙LOD∙ILL∙REX A∙A∙1866' (King of Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy and Venice, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1866), below – '1/4 FL' (1/4 Florin). The coin's edge is decorated with raised dots.

The center features the right-facing profile of Emperor of the Austrian Empire, King of Bohemia, Franz Joseph I, crowned with a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon forming a bow. An arc of Latin text runs along the coin's edge: left, top, and right 'FRANC∙IOS∙I∙D∙G∙AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR' (Franz Joseph I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria). Below is the letter 'A' – the mint mark for the Vienna Mint. The coin's edge is decorated with raised dots.
