    In the central part, within a circle of dots, is depicted the lesser coat of arms of the Austrian Empire. It features a double-headed eagle with spread wings, its heads crowned, above which is the Crown of Saint Stephen. In its right talon are a sword and scepter, in its left an orb. On its breast is the familial heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Above the eagle is the Latin inscription 'QUINQUE CORONÆ' (Five Crowns). Above, to the left and right, are laurel branches bearing five evenly spaced crowns. Below is the mint year in a frame '1909', with the numeral 5 on the left and the inscription 'Cor' on the right (5 Kronen). The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dots.

    In the central part is the right-facing profile of Emperor of the Austrian Empire, King of Bohemia, Franz Joseph I. Below the truncation of the monarch's neck is the engraver's name, Stefan Schwartz: 'ST. SCHWARTZ'. Around the entire circumference along the edge is a Latin text: 'FRANC∙IOS∙I∙D∙G∙IMP∙AVSTR∙REX BOH∙GAL∙ILL∙ETC∙ET AP∙REX HVNG' (Franz Joseph I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria, King of Bohemia, Galicia, Illyria, etc., and Apostolic King of Hungary). The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dots.
