Obverse In the central part, the coat of arms of Belize. It consists of: a heraldic shield divided into three parts; the left part features a crossed axe and paddle, the right part features an axe and saw, the lower part features a sailing ship. Above the shield, on a torse, stands a tree; supporters flank the shield: on the left holding an axe over the shoulder, on the right holding a paddle. At the base of the coat of arms is the Latin motto 'SUB UMBRA FLOREO' (Under the shade I flourish). Above the coat of arms is the country name in English 'BELIZE', below it the year of minting '1977'. The border of the coat of arms is formed by twenty-five leaves arranged in a circle. To the left of the coat of arms is the Franklin Mint mintmark 'f'. The edge of the coin is decorated with raised decorative dots.
