In the central part is the Commonwealth Coat of Arms of Australia: a kangaroo and an emu supporting a shield, above it the 'Commonwealth Star', below it a torse, and beneath the shield the motto 'ADVANCE AUSTRALIA'. Below the coat of arms, framed by heraldic roses, is the year of minting '1938'. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part of the coin, the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain is struck. Along the arc of the coin's edge runs the Latin text 'GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F:D: IND: IMP.', which translates to 'GEORGE VI BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL BRITAIN, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, EMPEROR OF INDIA'. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
