The central part features the lesser coat of arms of the Austrian Empire: a double-headed eagle with spread wings, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen. In its right talon, the eagle holds a sword and scepter, in its left an orb. On its chest is the familial heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Along the upper edge of the coin is a Latin inscription: 'REX∙LOMB∙ET∙VEN∙DALM∙GAL∙LOD∙ILL∙A∙A∙1847∙' (King of Lombardy and Venice, Dalmatia, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1847). Below is the numeral 5. The rim is decorated with decorative dentils.

Centered is the right-facing profile of Ferdinand I, Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and Bohemia, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon forming a bow. Along the upper edge of the coin runs a Latin inscription: 'FERD∙I∙D∙G∙AVSTR∙IMP∙HVNG∙BOH∙R∙H∙N∙V∙' (Ferdinand I, by the Grace of God Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, Bohemia). Below is the Latin letter 'A' - the mint mark of the Vienna Mint. The rim is decorated with raised dentils.
