    In the central part on the right are large numerals '10', below them a two-line inscription in English 'EURO / CENT' – meaning 'ten euro cents'. To the right of the ten is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. In the central part on the left are the outlines of the eurozone countries. From them, six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards, ending in 12 stars.
  • Obverse
    Around the edge of the coin are evenly spaced 12 stars of the European Union. Along the circumference of the inner disc are evenly placed 12 elements of the Portuguese coat of arms: 7 castles at the top, 5 shields at the bottom. In the spaces between the castles are the letters of the country name in English 'PORTUGAL', in the spaces between the shields – the mint year '2002'. Above the left castle are the symbols 'VS' – the mark of the designer Victor dos Santos, above the right castle the abbreviation 'INCM' – the mint mark of the Lisbon Mint. In the central part is an image of the royal seal of the first King of Portugal, Afonso I, from 1142.
