Reverse The central part features the medium coat of arms of Norway from 1884: a heraldic shield topped with a royal crown; on the shield, a crowned lion holding an axe in its forepaws. Oak branches flank the shield, crossed at its base. Along the upper edge of the coin is the inscription '20 KRONER'. Below are crossed hammers dividing the mint year '1876' into two parts. To the left and right of the year is the inscription '124 stk. 1 Kil.f.G.', meaning '124 pieces contain 1 kilogram of fine gold'. The edge is decorated with ornamental teeth.
Obverse The central part depicts the right-facing profile of King Oscar II of Sweden. Along the upper edge of the coin is the inscription 'OSCAR II NORGES o. SVER. KONGE' (Oscar II, King of Norway and Sweden). Below is the motto 'BRODERFOLKENES VEL' (The Welfare of the Brother Peoples). Five-pointed stars are placed along the rim to the left and right. The coin's edge is decorated with raised ornamental teeth.
