  • Reverse
The center of the reverse is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle, both heads of which bear crowns. A third, larger crown is above and between them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Around the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. In the eagle's right talon is a scepter, in the left an orb. Above the eagle, divided by the large crown, is the year of minting — "1740". Around the eagle, facing inward, is the text: МОНЕТА•РУБЛЬ•
  • Obverse
In the central part, the monogram of Emperor John III (Ivan VI Antonovich) is depicted large under the imperial crown. Below the monogram are the letters "С П Б" (Saint Petersburg Mint). Around the monogram, facing inward, is the text: IОАННЪ•III• Б•М•IМПЕРАТ: IСАМОДЕР: ВСЕРОСС:
